Volkswagen's star showcase at this year's IAA Mobility show is an electric SUV concept that provides a look at an upcoming, battery-powered compact SUV. Named the ID.Cross, the latest VW concept is the fourth in a series of concept vehicles Volkswagen has revealed in recent years, which preview its future mass-market electric offerings. The ID.Cross is, from a size standpoint, quite close to the Volkswagen Taigun, and the production model it spawns is expected to be one of Volkswagen's most affordable EVs globally. The ID.Cross has been showcased at IAA 2025 alongside the ID.Polo and ID.Polo GTI, both of which will be revealed in final production form in the first half of 2026.
Based on the VW Group's MEB Plus (MEB+) architecture, the ID.Cross measures in at 4,161 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,588 mm in height, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, which means it falls just short of matching the Taigun's dimensions in every dimension except width.
The ID.Cross showcar – finished in ‘Urban Jungle’ green – follows what VW calls its ‘Pure Positive’ design language, characterised by three ideals: stability, likeability and ‘secret sauce’. The unmistakeably VW face of the SUV has been styled to make it look like it is ‘smiling’, with a full-width daytime running light built high into the front-end.
The ID.Cross has a chunky, muscular silhouette, riding on exaggerated 21-inch ‘Balboa’ alloys shod in 235/40-section Goodyear tyres. The full-width tail-light emphasizes the width of the SUV, and the VW logo at the back is, just like the one at the front, illuminated.
Designed to provide the experience of a ‘feel-good’ oasis, the interior of the ID.Cross makes use of ‘Vanilla Chai’ (or beige) fabrics for a lounge-like atmosphere. Also part of the package are pre-configured light, sound and climate modes, which VW labels ‘Atmospheres’.
There are a total of two screens inside the ID.Cross – an 11-inch instruments display, and a 13-inch central touchscreen unit. The seats of the ID.Cross can be folded down completely to create a flat reclining area, just like on the iconic VW Bus. Boot space is rated at 450 litres, and there's also a 25-litre ‘frunk’.
The ID.Cross is equipped with an electric motor that produces a peak 208 bhp and drives the front wheels only. This will be sufficient to propel the SUV to a top speed of 175 kmph, according to VW, and the company expects this SUV to have a range of up to 420 kilometres (WLTP), though no battery details have been shared at this point.
While Volkswagen will unveil the production version of the ID.Cross for Europe in the second half of 2026, Volkswagen's first mass-market EV for India – expected to be an electric SUV – is unlikely to arrive before 2027, and is likely to be a product shared with Skoda Auto. In a previous interaction with carandbike, Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Skoda Auto, had confirmed the Group is evaluating the possibility of introducing an EV for India based on a modified version of the Group's MEB architecture.

A Fabulous hatch
By Saurabh @ Jun 19, 2026 06:24 PM
4.0
An undisputed hatchback leader of the country, Baleno does everything with exemplary finesse and smoothness. The 1.2 L petrol motor is an absolute gem and feels more lively with even the most gentle throttle inputs. The efficiency hovers atleast around the 15 and 20 kmpl mark in city and highways respectively. Space and comfort are also top notch for a hatch. Ride and handling are worth mentioning especially if you compare it with the 1st gen model. The only miss I feel is of a sunroof and rear armrest at least as an option, which would make this a complete overall package which is impossible to beat.

Best first car one can have
By Himanshu Yadav @ Jun 11, 2026 09:04 PM

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has been an excellent first car for me. It offers a comfortable ride, light steering, and smooth handling, making city driving very easy. The cabin feels spacious and well-built, with all the essential features needed for daily use. Fuel efficiency is good, and maintenance costs are reasonable. Whether for commuting or occasional highway trips, it delivers a reliable and enjoyable driving experience. Overall, it's a practical and value-for-money hatchback.

Reliable and Trustworthy

It has been 7 years now that we are using ZLX Power+ and this has been a ever-ready vehicle for us and it has never let us down anywhere we have been through it. Obviously when you are driving it, you should expect a very comfy drive like it's cousins (Scorpio/XUXs) but it has its own USPs and it won't let you prove itself wrong in any of them.

Balenooo Big on style and easy on the wallet
By Sharath @ Jun 11, 2026 03:23 PM
5.0
Four months and 5,500 km with my Baleno, and it's been a delight. Sleek LED DRLs and sharp styling turn heads, while the cabin feels a class above. The 1.2L DualJet engine is buttery smooth in city traffic and relaxed on highways. SmartPlay touchscreen is lag-free, and the light steering makes parking effortless. Mileage is the real hero — 16-17 km/l in city, 21-22 km/l on highway runs. Boot space could be bigger, but that's my only gripe. Comfort, features, and fuel efficiency in one package — the Baleno nails the premium hatchback formula. Zero regrets!

Driving Experience Tata Harrier XT Dark Edition Diesel Since 2021
By Akhilesh Mani Tiwari @ Jun 11, 2026 12:05 PM
5.0
I have been driving a Tata Harrier XT Dark Edition (Diesel) since 2021 and have covered around 76,000 km. Sharing my experience based on driving across highways, cities, and several trips to the Himalayas, including challenging terrains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Leh-Ladakh. The Harrier has a powerful engine, delivers good mileage, and offers excellent pickup. Both the front and rear seats are very comfortable, with ample legroom for passengers. The boot space is sufficient for 4–5 medium-sized trolleys or travel bags, making it an excellent choice for long road trips. The suspension setup is also very good and handles rough roads and mountain terrain comfortably. One area where I felt the vehicle lagged initially was the infotainment software, but Tata has significantly improved it in the newer versions. Being a diesel vehicle, there is some engine noise, but it is not excessive. The steering felt slightly heavy in my version, although I am not sure whether this has been improved in the latest models. Tata's service experience has generally been good. The service teams listen to customer concerns and work to resolve issues. Occasionally, there may be some challenges at the service center level, but with proper follow-up, the issues are usually addressed satisfactorily. Overall, despite being a 2WD vehicle, I have never faced any major issues while driving across different terrains, including mountainous regions. It has proven to be a reliable, comfortable, and capable companion for both daily commuting and long-distance travel.
