car&bike Expert Take
“The Tata Tiago EV is one of India's most pocket-friendly electric vehicles. In its last update, Tata has stripped away the gimmicky blue accents to make the car appear more mature than its predecessor. Things will only get better from here with the upcoming version, one promised to offer a much better range and a redesigned front bumper.”

Years after it debuted in 2022, the Tata Tiago EV recently went through a highly necessary and comprehensive update, with Tata Motors removing the polarising blue exterior accents in 2025, and making the vehicle appear thoroughly conventional. It now shares its visual identity with its internal combustion siblings.
This one's not a completely new generation; it's rather a mid-life refresh, as the basic bodyshell remains untouched, sticking to the old silhouette that buyers already appreciate. If you want a fuss-free runabout, the updated electric hatchback has finally settled for most buyer expectations. With a further update coming to the vehicle around mid-2026, expect it to offer even better driving range, updated LED DRLS and taillamps, and possibly a sunroof.
Our senior editor, Shams Raza Naqvi, did a detailed review of the 2025 edition, where he talked explicitly about the car's features, variants, and range details. Jaiveer, earlier this year, mentioned how the 2026 variant has been spied testing on Indian roads, and to give you an overall idea of this hatchback, we have fused the opinions of both experts into this review as you keep reading forward.
The mechanicals under the skin remain completely unchanged for the current update, as buyers can choose between a 19.2 kWh and a 24 kWh battery pack. The smaller pack has an electric motor generating 60.34 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. Opt for the larger long-range battery, and you get 73.75 bhp and 114 Nm instead.
According to Shams,
"The electric motor delivers brisk acceleration right from the bottom-end."
You also get multi-drive modes to adjust the power delivery based on your mood, and we think the highest regeneration setting is particularly useful since it optimises the battery drain effectively in heavy traffic. Overall, this car has one highly tractable setup for urban chores and short highway runs.
Engine Specifications
Engine & Battery | Power | Torque | Transmission |
Single Electric Motor (19.2 kWh) | 60.34 bhp | 110 Nm | Automatic |
Single Electric Motor (24 kWh) | 73.75 bhp | 114 Nm | Automatic |
Driving Experience: Real World
City Driving
Inside the city, the Tiago EV provides instant grunt right off the line, making gap-hunting in traffic effortless. The steering stays light at low speeds, and the compact footprint means it cuts through narrow lanes without any fuss. Strong brake regeneration is available, letting you conduct almost one-pedal driving in heavy congestion.
Highway Driving
Out on the open road, the long-range model hits 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. However, the electric motor does start to run out of breath once you cross 90 kmph. While it feels planted at triple-digit speeds, overtakes require a bit more planning. The wind noise, meanwhile, is noticeably absent, though the whirring of the tyres can creep into the cabin.
Even though early test mules hinted at the Tiago EV going through a massive styling overhaul, the final product does not look too different from its original silhouette.
The most noticeable exterior shift is the mature colour palette. An eye-catching Supernova Copper shade has boosted the hatchback's showroom appeal dramatically, while you can also opt for a vivid Chill Lime finish for a bolder look. However, the base variant remains entirely bare-bones and is exclusively sold in a white paint scheme.
Dimensions Comparison
Dimension | Tata Tiago EV | MG Comet EV | Citroen eC3 |
Length | 3,769 mm | 2,974 mm | 3,981 mm |
Width | 1,677 mm | 1,505 mm | 1,733 mm |
Height | 1,536 mm | 1,640 mm | 1,586 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,400 mm | 2,010 mm | 2,540 mm |
Compared to the rivals, the Tiago EV feels more balanced; it is bigger than the Comet and slightly shorter than the eC3 in dimensions.
The Tata Tiago’s body language keeps the compact hatchback design alive, but with several new elements that attempt to give the car a sporty profile.
Front Profile
- The top-spec XZ+ Tech Lux trim now has proper LED headlamps.
- These units offer excellent illumination out on the open road.
- A new piano black grille pattern tidies up the front fascia nicely, with EV-specific badging.
Side Profile
- The 14-inch ‘Hyperstyle’ steel wheels feature redesigned covers, partly done so as to look like alloy wheels.
- There are some subtle blue EV badges on the front doors.
- However, even now, real alloy wheels are absent across the entire range.

Rear Profile
- The tail section remains virtually unchanged with petal-shaped tail lamps.
- A shark fin antenna with GPS joins the kit list on the higher variants.
- The boot lid keeps up with a clean and minimalist appearance.
Cabin Layout and Quality
The old blue trim rings inside the Tata Tiago EV are completely gone now, resulting in a massive improvement for the cabin's visual appeal.
Shams points out,
"A tasteful dual-tone grey theme replaces them, paired with generous piano black plastics."
Chrome surrounds on the air vents add more to the flair, while drivers now hold a handsome two-spoke illuminated steering wheel. It feels excellent to grip and genuinely lifts the ambience, and the instrument dials feature revised graphics that are incredibly easy to read on the move.

Seating Comfort
Front Row
Tata has smartly swapped the old faux-leather upholstery for breathable fabric seats, and this makes hot summer commutes far more comfortable. The seat squab offers decent under-thigh support, and the driving position is easy to tailor.
Second Row
Rear passengers finally get three-point seat belts across the bench. Sadly, the rear headrests remain fixed and lack adequate neck support for taller adults. The floor, meanwhile, sits a bit high due to the battery pack, which pushes your knees up slightly.
Features That Improve Daily Use
- Freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with crisp graphics.
- Tata's IRA connectivity suite is available on the top variant.
- A fast-charging 45W Type-C port to keep devices juiced up.
- Auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.
- A cooled glovebox and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Tata Tiago EV's price starts at Rs. 7.99 lakh, but it can go up to Rs. 11.14 lakh for the fully loaded trim. You will have to drive the car a lot to recover its initial premium over the petrol variant. We have compiled the price range of all its variants in the table below.
Ex-Showroom Prices (India)
Variant | Battery & Powertrain | Ex-Showroom Price |
XE MR | 19.2 kWh / Electric Motor | Rs. 7.99 Lakh |
XT MR | 19.2 kWh / Electric Motor | Rs. 8.99 Lakh |
XT LR | 24 kWh / Electric Motor | Rs. 10.14 Lakh |
XZ+ Tech Lux LR | 24 kWh / Electric Motor | Rs. 11.14 Lakh |
The hatchback’s larger 24 kWh battery pack claims an MIDC range of 293 km. However, Tata's internal testing suggests a real-world figure of roughly 205 km, and during our tests, the car started with a 90 per cent state of charge. It covered 110 km through stop-start traffic and brief highway stints. The battery dropped to 28 per cent with the air conditioning running constantly. That translates to a reliable real-world range of nearly 190 km.
According to Shams,
"It is a highly tractable setup for urban chores and short highway runs."
Charging options are plentiful. An optional 7.2 kW AC wall box cuts the charging wait down to 3.6 hours. If you find a fast DC charger, a 10 to 80 per cent top-up takes under an hour.
Observed Fuel Efficiency During Testing
Battery Pack | Claimed Range | Real-World City Range | Real-World Highway Range |
19.2 kWh | 223 km | 150 - 160 km | 140 - 150 km |
24 kWh | 293 km | 190 - 200 km | 180 - 190 km |
On the safety front, the Tata Tiago EV is a fairly popular vehicle in the hatchback segment, offering a four-star Global NCAP adult safety rating and a three-star child safety rating.
Passive Safety and Crash Protection
The car’s bodyshell feels tough, and the doors shut with a reassuring thud. However, our only major niggle is that six airbags aren't available. Many cheaper rivals now offer them as standard equipment across their range. Currently, you only get dual front airbags in the Tiago EV. But rear passengers do get three-point seatbelts, which is a welcome addition.
Active Safety and Stability Systems
The last update crucially added electronic stability control and hill-hold assist to the kit list. These systems step in smoothly when the road gets slippery, while a sharper reverse camera makes parking accessible in tight spots. You also get a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Safety Verdict
This hatchback is one robust and fundamentally safe runabout. The four-star rating gives you peace of mind on the daily commute, but once again, we need to mention how the absence of six airbags as of 2026 feels like a missed opportunity for the Tata Tiago EV to lead the segment truly.
Tata has significantly modernised the cabin experience for its electric model. The standout upgrade is undoubtedly the freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, completely changing the dashboard fascia. The screen packs crisp graphics and a highly responsive interface, and you also get the brand's IRA connectivity suite on the top-spec models.
The driver, meanwhile, holds a handsome two-spoke illuminated steering wheel. It feels excellent to grip and lifts the cabin's visual appeal significantly. Behind it, the instrument dials feature revised graphics that are easy to read and engage.
According to Jaiveer,
“The Tiago EV did get a notable update to the interior last year, including the 10.25-inch central touchscreen on top variants.”
Infotainment and Interface
- The 10.25-inch touchscreen display is crisp to the touch and contains all the necessary feedback.
- Tata's IRA connectivity suite on the top trims offers remote commands, vehicle health diagnostics, and charge management.
- The revised digital instrument dials with clear graphics are clearly tailored to satisfy electric driving.
- There are multi-drive modes to adjust the engine’s power delivery in different driving situations.
Cabin Convenience and Practical Features
- A fast-charging 45W Type-C port is available to charge your devices on long trips.
- There is also a cooled glovebox and tyre pressure monitoring system for better planning and management.
- The car has breathable fabric seats for summer comfort.
- The car also benefits from auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers for harsh weather.
The hatchback's boot capacity holds steady at a usable 240 litres. It will not swallow massive airport suitcases easily, but it can handle weekly grocery runs and daily stowage. The load lip is fairly standard for a car in this segment, so you do have to lift heavier bags quite high. The battery pack placement beneath the floor slightly compromises outright depth, but if we consider dedicated city runabouts, the space on offer remains genuinely practical.
Electric cars often suffer from a stiff ride over poorly maintained streets, and the battery pack's weight usually keeps the suspension stiff most of the time. But, to our surprise, the Tiago EV handles uneven roads well.
According to Shams,
“The Tiago EV manages to iron out bumps and ruts with surprising grace. Its suspension feels supple and absorbs poor road surfaces comfortably.”
City Driving
The electric motor offers brisk acceleration right from the bottom end. This advantage makes gap-hunting in stop-start traffic effortless, and you also get multi-drive modes to adjust the power delivery based on your driving mood. The battery drain is linear even in heavy traffic, as it handles daily commutes without any complaints.
Highway Driving
On long, uninterrupted stretches, the car holds its composure rather well. The higher model hits 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds, and it smoothly handles corners, though expect some body roll if you demand too much from it. It also struggles past 100 kmph, so remember, high-speed overtaking must always be a calculated affair.
Tata sells the electric hatchback across multiple trim levels; you can pick between the Medium Range (19.2 kWh) and Long Range (24 kWh) battery packs.
Variant | Battery & Charging | Key Additions | Best Suited For |
XE MR | 19.2 kWh, 3.3 kW AC | Multi-drive modes, basic digital dials | Fleet operators and strict budgets |
XT MR/LR | 19.2 kWh / 24 kWh, 3.3 kW AC | Steering-mounted controls, touchscreen | Everyday urban commuters |
XZ+ LR | 24 kWh, 3.3 kW / 7.2 kW AC | Cruise control, auto headlamps, and wipers | Buyers who want all the creature comforts available |
XZ+ Tech Lux LR | 24 kWh, 3.3 kW / 7.2 kW AC | 10.25-inch screen, connected car tech | Tech-savvy early adopters |
The Essentials That You Don’t Get
- The lack of six airbags as standard
- Adjustable rear headrests for adequate neck support
- Still no alloy wheels for the entire lineup
Picking the right Tata Tiago EV depends entirely on your daily mileage, and of course, also the price that you’re willing to pay for this vehicle.
Best for Budget City Runabouts: XT Medium Range
If your daily driving is mostly about covering short school runs and local markets, the smaller 19.2 kWh battery works perfectly.
Best for Daily Highway Commutes: XZ+ Long Range
Those tackling longer ring roads should step up to the 24 kWh pack. The cruise control feature makes tedious highway stints much more relaxing, and it is the sweet
spot for outright value.
Best for the Tech-Obsessed: XZ+ Tech Lux
If you want a crisp 10.25-inch display and a two-spoke illuminated steering wheel, this is the one to grab. It feels properly upmarket inside.

The entry-level electric segment is slowly heating up right now in India, and no doubt, the Tiago EV faces stiff competition from both purpose-built urban electrics and larger, slightly more expensive hatchbacks.
The slightly lower-priced MG Comet EV is one worthy challenger to the Tiago EV, while the much more expensive Citroen eC3 stands strong with a bigger battery and higher driving range.
Model | Battery Options | Claimed Range | Ex-Showroom Price Range |
19.2 kWh / 24 kWh | Up to 293 km | Rs. 7.99 Lakh – Rs. 11.14 Lakh
17.3 kWh | 230 km | Rs. 7.50 Lakh – Rs. 10.00 Lakh
29.2 kWh | 320 km | Rs. 12.90 Lakh – Rs. 13.41 Lakh |
Which Hatchback Should You Choose?
- Choose the Tata Tiago EV if you want a conventional five-door layout with a supple ride quality.
- Choose the MG Comet EV if you want a radically styled, ultra-compact runabout for terribly tight city lanes.
- Choose the Citroen eC3 if you care about a larger footprint and sheer cabin space over outright features available.
Pros
- Punchy bottom-end electric torque
- Comfortable low-speed ride quality
- Crisp 10.25-inch touchscreen
Cons
- Lack of six airbags as standard
- Fixed rear headrests lack neck support
- Real-world range drops on highways
Verdict
Right now, the Tata Tiago EV thoroughly matches expectations as a practical, pocket-friendly commuter. It does not rewrite the rulebook on performance. Instead, it relies on sensible updates to stay highly relevant in a widely contested car segment in the subcontinent’s market. The mature colour palette and removal of the tacky blue accents have given it proper showroom appeal now, and performance-wise, the car is as punchy as it can be, while keeping running costs low.
You do have to drive it extensively to recover the premium, and six airbags should have been there, considering how most vehicles do nowadays, even if the government hasn’t made it a mandatory rule yet. But despite these few shortcomings, the Tata Tiago EV’s chassis overall feels well put together for urban commuting. If buyers ultimately want any zero-emission daily driver, this little hatchback is an exceptional value.
Shams summarises the Tata Tiago EV,
“It remains one of India's most accessible electric cars. You can still choose between petrol, CNG, and electric powertrains for this pragmatic hatchback.”

- All-rounder fun city car - Chota package Bada dhamaka4.0Tata Punch Smart CNG(पेट्रोल+सीनजी)The Tata Punch Smart CNG is a compelling entry-level compact SUV for buyers seeking a practical, safe, and economical daily driver. Despite being the base CNG variant, it retains the Punch's rugged SUV styling, commanding driving position, and 193 mm ground clearance, making it well-suited for Indian road conditions. Powered by Tata's 1.2-litre bi-fuel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, it offers smooth city drivability and impressive fuel efficiency, while the twin-cylinder CNG technology preserves a usable boot space—an advantage over conventional single-cylinder CNG setups. Where the Smart CNG shines is in its value proposition. It delivers Tata's hallmark strong build quality and safety credentials at an accessible price, making it an attractive option for first-time buyers or those upgrading from a hatchback. However, the base variant does miss out on several convenience and infotainment features that are available in higher trims, and the naturally aspirated engine feels modest during quick overtakes or fully loaded highway drives. Even so, if your priorities are low running costs, high safety, and SUV practicality over premium features, the Tata Punch Smart CNG is one of the strongest value-for-money choices in its segment.By Chirag Bhanushaliदिनांक: Jul 30, 2026 01:58 PM76
