car&bike Expert Take
“The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is for those who want a reliable, practical electric SUV backed by India's largest service network. It does not try to break speed records or offer futuristic, complicated designs. Instead, it offers a solid battery range, familiar ergonomics, and comfortable ride quality.”
Built on a dedicated EV platform and previewed initially by the eVX concept, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is the brand's first pure electric vehicle in India. It is also the brand’s first globally produced battery electric vehicle, built on the dedicated Heartect-e platform. Some of its most prominent qualities are its 543 km of range, Level 2 ADAS, and the spacious cabin with a flat floor.
Buyers can choose between two e-Vitara options in the Indian market right now. You can buy the car outright at its original ex-showroom price or opt for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option with a Rs. 3.99 per km rental fee. Bilal Firfiray of car&bike checked out how the car performs around the time of its launch, and he has this to say about it,

“If you are someone who trusts Maruti, who wants an EV that behaves like a Maruti, who values reliability over flamboyance, then the e-Vitara makes a lot of sense.”
Maruti Suzuki offers two battery pack options for the e-Vitara, both sourced from BYD. Power is sent strictly to the front wheels.
Powertrain Specifications
Powertrain | Power | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |
49 kWh Battery, Single Electric Motor | 142 bhp | 193 Nm | Single-speed automatic | Front-Wheel Drive |
61 kWh Battery, Single Electric Motor | 172 bhp | 193 Nm | Single-speed automatic | Front-Wheel Drive |
Key Takeaways
- Both battery packs have a motor that delivers an identical 193 Nm of torque.
- The SUV supports fast charging.
- It takes 45 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 per cent on a DC fast charger.
City Driving Experience
Inside the city, the e-Vitara keeps its power delivery highly linear and predictable.
- You do not get any sudden, jerky surge of torque.
- There’s a new eAxle electric motor that makes closing traffic gaps effortless.
- Torque to propel the car forward is available right from a standstill.
Highway Driving Experience
Out on the highway, the SUV feels planted and secure, thanks to the battery’s extra weight.
- The 172 bhp motor provides a solid punch for quick overtakes.
- The car also cruises comfortably at triple-digit speeds.
- The 49 kWh’s top speed is, however, capped at 150 kmph.
The car’s design takes a step away from Maruti's traditional safe styling. It looks relatively more muscular, upright, and modern, but it doesn’t go completely futuristic either.
Bilal observes,
"The e-Vitara is almost as large as the Hyundai Creta Electric, one of its many rivals."
Dimensions Comparison
| Dimension | Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara | Tata Curvv EV | MG ZS EV |
| Length | 4,275 mm | 4,310 mm | 4,323 mm |
| Width | 1,800 mm | 1,810 mm | 1,809 mm |
| Height | 1,640 mm | 1,637 mm | 1,649 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,700 mm | 2,560 mm | 2,581 mm |
| Kerb Weight | 1,702 - 1,899 kg | 1,437 - 1,531 kg | 1,518 - 1,620 kg |
| Ground Clearance | 185 mm | 186 mm | 175 mm |
Key Takeaways
- The e-Vitara gets a massive 2,700 mm wheelbase.
- Its ground clearance of 185 mm helps the heavy battery pack clear large speed breakers.
- It measures slightly shorter in overall length compared to the Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV.
Build Quality & Materials
Maruti Suzuki has stepped up the build quality considerably. The doors feel solid, while the e-Vitara’s body scored a full five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. Inside, the dashboard uses soft-touch materials, moving away from the hard plastics seen in the brand's cheaper models.

Instead of adopting a sloping aerodynamic profile, the e-Vitara chooses to have a strong, upright SUV stance.
Front Profile
- The front end gets a clean, closed-off panel.
- It features sharp LED headlamps with distinct Y-shaped LED daytime running lights.
- The front bumper includes chunky cladding and a silver skid plate.
Side Profile
- The side profile highlights large square-ish wheel arches wrapped in thick black cladding.
- It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, with 19-inch aero-optimised wheels available as an option.
- You can see the charging port on the front left fender of the vehicle.

Rear Profile
- The rear features connected LED tail lamps that stretch across the tailgate.
- A prominent e-Vitara badge sits directly in the centre.
Bilal says,
“The styling is new yet familiar, with Y-shaped LED headlights, strong character lines, etc.”
Older Maruti layouts are not taken in the e-Vitara. In fact, it embraces a heavily digitised, modern setup.
Cabin Layout and Quality
- A floating centre console houses the electronic parking brake, drive mode selector, and storage cubbies.
- The traditional steering wheel is replaced by a new two-spoke design.
- The dashboard has a clean, dual-tone theme.
- Many soft-touch materials wrap around the dashboard and door armrests.
Seating Comfort
Front Row
- The driver gets a 10-way power-adjustable seat to find the exact driving position.
- Both front seats are wide and offer good side support.
- They have ventilation as well to keep occupants comfortable during hot summers.
Second Row
- The seats here can recline up to 20 degrees for added comfort on long trips.
- The long 2,700 mm wheelbase frees up a lot of legroom.
- However, the under-thigh support is lacking because the battery raises the floor height.

Features That Improve Daily Use
- A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- A 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster
- An Infinity by Harman 8-speaker premium sound system
- A wireless phone charging pad
- Automatic climate control with dedicated rear AC vents

However, Bilal points out one thing,
“At a time when cars have started giving you a tablet, triple-screen setup and whatnot, the 10.1-inch infotainment system feels like a step back in comparison.”
Maruti Suzuki sells the e-Vitara with a dual pricing strategy. You can buy the vehicle at its full price, or you can go for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option to drop the initial purchase cost.
Variant | Battery & Powertrain | Ex-Showroom Price | BaaS Ex-Showroom Price | BaaS Battery Rental |
Delta (49 kWh) | 49 kWh battery, 142 bhp FWD electric motor | Rs. 15.99 Lakh | Rs. 10.99 Lakh | Rs. 3.99/km |
Zeta (61 kWh) | 61 kWh battery, 172 bhp FWD electric motor | Rs. 17.79 Lakh | Rs. 12.29 Lakh | Rs. 4.39/km |
Alpha (61 kWh) | 61 kWh battery, 172 bhp FWD electric motor | Rs. 20.21 Lakh | Rs. 14.71 Lakh | Rs. 4.39/km |
This car’s two battery capacities decide its outright range. Both battery packs get an eight-year warranty. As for charging, 10 to 80 per cent can be achieved in just 45 minutes with a DC fast charger. But home charging will take around six-and-a-half hours for the 49 kWh battery and nine hours for the 61 kWh battery.
| Battery Pack | ARAI Claimed Range | User-Reported City Range | User-Reported Highway Range |
| 49 kWh Battery | 440 km | 320-350 km | 280-300 km |
| 61 kWh Battery | 543 km | 420-450 km | 380-400 km |
Immediately after launch, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara secured a full five-star crash test rating from Bharat NCAP.
Passive Safety and Crash Protection
- The SUV uses a dedicated skateboard EV platform (HearTech-e).
- It places the battery in a strong, protective floor casing.
- Seven airbags are available on all the variants.
- It also features standard ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
Active Safety and Stability Systems
- The top-spec Alpha variant gets a full Level 2 ADAS suite
- It brings automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist.
- Standard safety gear includes all-wheel disc brakes, ESC, and hill-hold assist.
- A 360-degree surround-view camera is also available.
Compared to Maruti’s ICE offerings, the e-Vitara has a much more updated interior. Not only does it get a few large screens, but it also adds some premium convenience features.
Infotainment and Interface
- The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system occupies dashboard space.
- It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- The driver also gets a crisp 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for range, battery status, and navigation.

Cabin Convenience and Practical Features
- The top trim offers ventilated front seats and an electrically adjustable driver's seat.
- A large panoramic glass roof is present in this car.
- There’s a wireless charging pad and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM), too.
- The automatic climate control uses physical buttons.

- The e-Vitara offers 310 litres of boot space.
- It is admittedly smaller than most internal combustion SUVs in the same segment.
- The given space handles a couple of soft duffel bags and daily groceries well.
- But packing hard-shell suitcases for a family vacation requires folding the rear seats.
- Unlike many EVs, there is no "frunk" (front trunk) available under the bonnet.

The e-Vitara prioritises passenger comfort first and foremost.
City Driving
- The steering wheel stays light inside the city, removing the physical strain of parallel parking.
- The suspension absorbs sharp road bumps very well; ride comfort is reasonably high.
- The predictable power delivery also stops the car from jerking forward aggressively when stuck in traffic.
Highway Driving
- On the highways, the heavy battery pack keeps the SUV firmly planted to the road.
- It effectively keeps that floating feeling away, the one we experience in lightweight cars.
- Wind noise is also well-controlled, keeping the cabin quiet.
- Body roll and heft exist, though, mostly when taking sharp corners.
- The rear suspension can feel slightly bouncy if you hit sharp expansion joints at high speeds.
Bilal says,
“It's not uncomfortable, but it isn't as pliant as some of the other EVs out there.”
Maruti keeps the variant list simple with three different personas.
Variant | Powertrain | Key Additions | Best Suited For |
Delta | 49 kWh, Single Speed | 10.25-inch screen, seven airbags, auto AC | Budget-conscious buyers wanting a safe EV |
Zeta | 61 kWh, Single Speed | 61 kWh battery, rear camera, wireless charger | Buyers needing long range on a budget |
Alpha | 61 kWh, Single Speed | Level 2 ADAS, 360-camera, panoramic roof, ventilated seats | Buyers wanting a fully loaded tech experience |
The Essentials That You Don’t Get
- A massive, family-sized boot space
- Proper under-thigh support in the rear seats on long journeys
- A 'frunk' for storing charging cables
The Delta variant has the smaller 49 kWh battery pack, but it’s ex-showroom, and BaaS prices are also relatively lower. In contrast, the Zeta and Alpha trims offer the higher battery, which means more driving range.
Best for Strict Budgets: Delta
If you only drive in the city, the Delta variant with the 49 kWh battery stills makes sense. It gives you the core safety features, including seven airbags, without forcing you to pay for a larger battery you may rarely use.
Best for Long Range: Zeta
But the Zeta trim upgrades you to the massive 61 kWh battery pack, giving you genuine highway capability and over 400 km of real-world range. Also, it keeps the price lower than the top trim.
Best for Maximum Safety & Comfort: Alpha Dual Tone
If you drive on the highway frequently, or are an individual involved in frequent intercity transit, the Alpha is the one to buy. It brings the Level 2 ADAS suite for active safety, a 360-degree camera for tight parking, and ventilated seats for summer comfort.
Stepping into a competitive mid-size electric SUV segment, Maruti’s EV faces heat mostly from the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Creta EV.
| Model | Battery | Key Value Proposition | Ex-Showroom Price |
| Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara | 49 kWh / 61 kWh | Massive service network, comfortable ride, 5-star safety | Rs. 15.99 - 20.21 Lakh |
| Tata Curvv EV | 45 kWh / 55 kWh | Striking coupe design, massive boot space | Rs. 16.99 - 19.49 Lakh |
| MG ZS EV | 50.3 kWh | Proven global product, punchy performance | Rs. 17.99 - 20.74 Lakh |
| Hyundai Creta EV | 42 kWh / 51.4 kWh | Highly refined cabin, extensive feature list | Rs. 18.03 - 24.70 Lakh |
Which Electric SUV Should You Choose?
- Choose the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara if you want a reliable, comfortable family EV backed by India's largest service network.
- Choose the Tata Curvv EV if you want head-turning coupe styling and significantly more boot space for luggage.
- Choose the MG ZS EV if you prefer a punchier, highly responsive electric motor and a unique gear recommender for novice drivers.
- Choose the Hyundai Creta EV if you want a plush, highly premium interior and a redefined ride quality.

Pros
- The 61 kWh battery’s 400+ km range
- Seven airbags
- Five-star Bharat NCAP rating
- A premium interior
- The BaaS pricing strategy
Cons
- Boot space is just 310 litres
- The high floor limits under-thigh support
- Rear suspension feels bouncy sometimes
- No 'frunk' for storing charging cables
Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara avoids unnecessary gimmicks and offers exactly what a traditional car buyer wants when switching to an EV: a solid battery range, familiar comfort, and peace of mind. It does compromise on luggage space, and the rear seat posture can bother tall adults. However, you get seven airbags, a plush interior, and the highly attractive BaaS pricing model that makes the e-Vitara equally appealing. It’s a zero-emission family SUV that behaves calmly in the city and goes the distance on the highway.
Bilal concludes,
“Sometimes, the last one to arrive is the one that stays the longest.”

- All-rounder fun city car - Chota package Bada dhamaka4.0Tata Punch Smart CNG(पेट्रोल+सीनजी)The Tata Punch Smart CNG is a compelling entry-level compact SUV for buyers seeking a practical, safe, and economical daily driver. Despite being the base CNG variant, it retains the Punch's rugged SUV styling, commanding driving position, and 193 mm ground clearance, making it well-suited for Indian road conditions. Powered by Tata's 1.2-litre bi-fuel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, it offers smooth city drivability and impressive fuel efficiency, while the twin-cylinder CNG technology preserves a usable boot space—an advantage over conventional single-cylinder CNG setups. Where the Smart CNG shines is in its value proposition. It delivers Tata's hallmark strong build quality and safety credentials at an accessible price, making it an attractive option for first-time buyers or those upgrading from a hatchback. However, the base variant does miss out on several convenience and infotainment features that are available in higher trims, and the naturally aspirated engine feels modest during quick overtakes or fully loaded highway drives. Even so, if your priorities are low running costs, high safety, and SUV practicality over premium features, the Tata Punch Smart CNG is one of the strongest value-for-money choices in its segment.By Chirag Bhanushaliदिनांक: Jul 30, 2026 01:58 PM76
