Launched recently, the new Nissan Tekton looks a lot like the brand’s legendary global Nissan Patrol. It has landed in the Indian market mainly to challenge other established segment cars like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

For this edition, Nissan has equipped the Tekton with turbocharged engines right from the base variant. It looks quite muscular as well, while the cabin inside has a highly connected, luxury-focused experience.

Seshan Vijayraghvan took a trip from Chandigarh to Leh with Nissan’s latest offering. He remarks,

"I spent most of the journey in the 1.3-litre version and also experienced the 1.0-litre manual. Both had their strengths, and both had to work hard on these roads."

Both powertrains of the new Tekton are exclusively turbocharged.

City Driving Experience

• Both engines can handle city traffic well, without any inconvenience.
• The engines provide peppy low-end throttle response for quick traffic overtakes.
• The electric power steering features tilt and telescopic adjustments for urban manoeuvres.

Highway Driving Experience

• The 1.3-litre's massive 280 Nm torque reserve is more ideal for highway overtaking.
• There’s standard cruise control on the higher trims, keeping the engine performing well.
• The T160 engine needs careful gear management here, more than the T280 alternative. 

The exterior uses an aero-optimised, commanding silhouette.

Seshan recalls,

"Even a quick tea break by the roadside had people walking up to ask about the car."

Build Quality & Materials

The Tekton uses a reinforced body structure made of 62% high-strength steel, with ultra-high-strength steel integrated into the A and B pillars for maximum rollover rigidity. And inside, the cabin avoids cheap plastics.

Nissan went with contrasting elements to separate the Tekton’s look from other cars.

Front Profile

• The front gets a full-width Patrol-inspired chrome accent grille.
• There are Matrix Vision headlamps with signature C-shaped 5-chamber LED DRLs.
• A dynamic double-C contrast skid plate sits at the lower bumper.

Side Profile

• The side features heavily reinforced wheel arch cladding and aerodynamic flush roof rails.
• Higher trims ride on 18-inch five-petal brushed silver and Noir diamond-cut alloy wheels.
• A bold Majestic Himalayan Crest badge finished in piano black sits on the fender.

• The rear highlights SynchroFlow C-shaped connected LED tail lamps.
• Other aero-optimised elements include an aggressive rear roof spoiler.

• The flagship trims have a luxurious tri-tone soft-touch interior.

Front Row

• Drivers get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a six-way electrically adjustable seat.
